Is a Ultra DMA 80-Conductor IDE|ATA cable mandatory for my Pioneer computer drive?

No, it is not mandatory.

However to achieve optimal results and be able to write up to the maximum speed, it is required.

With any Ultra DMA modes above mode 2, the 80-conductor cable is mandatory.
